Gracie
Barra Orlando offers classes for adults as well. Adult classes are divided
into our Fundamentals Program and our Advanced Program. Our adult classes
will also build higher confidence and greater self-esteem.
Fundamentals Program
The first step in Brazilian
Jiu-Jitsu is to learn the basic movements and positions that will build a
solid base for the student in order to learn the more advanced techniques
later. The student will acquire a basic understanding of Jiu-Jitsu and
Self-Defense strategies.
In the Fundamentals Program
students will learn defenses against the most common street attacks
such as ordinary chokes, grabs, punches, kicks, bear hugs and head locks,
and how to deal with these attacks intelligently. Students will also learn
how to break the fall, roll safely, escape dangerous positions, perform
takedowns and throws, and how to apply basic submissions.
Advanced Program
Once the student has learned
the basic positions and movements in the Fundamentals Program, they are now
ready to dive into our Advanced Program. In this course the student will learn
more about how to effectively control and escape from all the basic positions.
They will also learn a lot more about how to finish a fight with the more advanced
submission holds. In the Advanced Program the student will obtain a technical
understanding of Jiu-Jitsu and the proper application during training.
Competition Training
Once the student is training
confidently in the Advanced Program, they are now ready to start developing
themselves into a true Jiu-Jitsu fighter. In this high-intensity course, the
student will learn the more advanced techniques that Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has
to offer and how to apply these techniques during the stresses of a tournament-type
setting. The student will spend more time "rolling" and begin developing their
own style or "game."
No-Gi Grappling
This course addresses the issue
of taking the kimono off and setting up a more realistic street fight scenario.
The reason the student must successfully complete the Fundamentals Program before
entering this course is A) safety and B) because unless the student knows the basic
concepts of Jiu-Jitsu with a uniform on, they will not understand the advanced
concepts of Jiu-Jitsu without the uniform. In this course the student is required
to wear an academy t-shirt and grappling shorts.
Classes are offered at both our downtown Orlando
and Sandlake locations. Check our Schedule for Class times.
